Description
Join us for a FREE, rare screening of the BAFTA-nominated British cinema classic featuring Earl Cameron, John Mills and Johnny Sekka, remade in the US as Guess Who's Coming To Dinner? starring Sidney Poitier.
In the run up to a Guy Fawkes’ night in early 1960s Britain, a progressive trade union leader passionately fights racial discrimination in his workplace, but is less stridently antiracist when his daughter brings home her Jamaican boyfriend.
With racist rioting one of the film's major subplots, alongside workplace discrimination, education, trade union politics, housing discrimination, and many facets of UK racism at the time, revisiting Flame in the Streets’ depiction (rather than necessarily a true glimpse) of the environment many Windrush migrants entered, offers an opportunity to reflect on the echoes and recurrences in our own time.
Come for the film, stay for the conversation.
FREE ENTRY, registration is essential.
