Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the year (2015) and critically-acclaimed tenor saxophonist, HELENA KAY makes their debut at Hampstead Jazz Club in an intimate evening of melodic and authentic jazz.

Tonight she will be joined by an old friend, our own Musical Director Jamie Safir on Piano (Ronnie Scott’s All Stars, Claire Martin, Ian Shaw).

    Helena Kay

Kay draws influence from different places which are important to them: Scotland, London, and New York, each of which have been their home during their career. While in New York, they had lessons with some of the greats of the contemporary jazz scene – Dayna Stephens, Melissa Aldana, Chris Cheek and Rodney Green.

Kay also plays with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, and has performed at numerous festivals such as London Jazz Festival, Glasgow Jazz Festival, as well as venues including as Ronnie Scott’s, The Royal Albert Hall and The Vortex.

This was indeed a virtuoso venture for Helena…Their mellow sound was appealing, too’ - John Watson, London Jazz News

Kay and her trio confirmed both their understated group virtuosity and command of narrative drive.” - Mike Hobart, Financial Times
