Hammer & Tongue is BACK! And it's better than ever at our new venue The Tusk Club @ The Walrus on the first Tuesday of every month. 

Join us for an evening of exhilarating spoken word with Brighton's longest-running poetry slam. Featuring headline performances from Hannah Woodvine, Séamus Fox and Leanne Shorley.

Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.

Hannah Woodvine (she/her) is a poet, writer and teacher originally from Herefordshire. Since moving to Brighton last year, she has been a finalist of Hammer and Tongue’s Brighton Slam, placed second at the renowned Ledbury Poetry Festival slam, and had her poetry published with Flight of the Dragonfly. Séamus Fox is a spoken-word poet and author who is based in Portslade but who comes from Craigavon, Co Armagh in Ireland. He has published two books of poetry and he won the All Ireland Poetry Slam in 2009. Much of his work focuses on social commentary, he talks about poverty and injustice and often controversial subjects that most people seem compelled to ignore. Séamus won one of the heats of last year's Hammer and Tongue audience and was among the finalists last summer at Brighton Open Air Theatre where he finished in 3rd place. https://www.instagram.com/feam...

Leanne Shorley is a writer, performer and all-round fun time gal. Her work has been featured on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 6 Music and showcased at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. She’s appeared on Sky Art's 'Life & Rhymes' and her first one-woman show, 'Leanne Shorley: Nice Things', debuted at Brighton Fringe last year. LOVELY POETS, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Come along and join the slam! Prepare an original poem of 3 minutes or less (no music, no props). Any style, any theme, anything you want! It doesn't have to be memorised and you're more than welcome to read from paper/your phone. There are limited slots available. Please be aware the performance space is in a basement which is only accessible via a flight of stairs. There is flat access to the ground floor of the pub, as well as space to store wheelchairs / a mobility scooter. Assistance dogs are welcome.
