Live poetry and spoken word. London's branch of the UK's biggest network of slam poetry is back for February, full of community vibes and creative quality. Features this month from Wolverhampton's storyteller and street commentator, Reload, and from Channel 4 / BBC featured rapper-comic, Joe Jacobs. Plus the open mic slam.
JOE JACOBS: London based comedian, rapper and writer. Since 2012, he has performed nationally and internationally, sharing bills with acts including Bill Burr, Stewart Lee and Mr. Motivator. His live shows effortlessly flit between hip hop and comedy and he’s been seen/heard on Channel 4, BBC Radio 4, BBC 6 Music, Radio 1XTRA, plus gained millions of viral video views online. In addition to stand up, as solo artist Jester Jacobs, he’s put out music since his debut Mental Disorder in 2008. In 2017, Joe took Ripe to the Edinburgh Fringe where it received critical acclaim. In 2019, he returned with Grimefulness. Joe has just appeared on Channel 4’s stand up show ClubNite.
RELOAD: Hailing from the West Midlands and residing in London, Reload emerged onto the scene as a game changing urban poet and artist. Championed by some heavyweight names within the industry such as Tim Westwood, Charlie Sloth, Jamal Edwards and DJ Semtex, Reload is steadily building up a significant following. An award winning lyricist known for his storytelling and street-commentary, Reload is able to carefully craft and unfold what is reality for today’s generation, addressing social issues with an urban poetry style.
OPEN MIC SLAM: 8 slots available in a one-round slam, judged by randomly selected members of the audience. 3.5minutes max per poet. Winner gets a 10min set at the next event, a place in the end-of-season Hackney final and a chance to win a place in the H&T National Final at The Royal Albert Hall! All styles welcome. Sign up on the door from 7:30pm. 1st come, 1st served.
