Description
Join Dr. Gabriel Williams and LondonExhibitions.co.uk for new a series of walking tours exploring London’s rich collection of architecture and outdoors sculpture. These tours combine a relaxing summer evening stroll with the stories behind some of the capital’s best-known landmarks, as well as its hidden gems.
There are five tours in total, each beginning on a weekday evening at 7pm from a different location, and lasting 90 minutes. The different areas covered will include Westminster, Bloomsbury, South Kensington, the City of London and the East End. Don’t worry if you miss a tour; they’ll be repeated over time.
This tour looks at the glorious complex of Victorian museums, colleges and public sculptures around South Kensington, including the National History Museum, the Royal Albert Hall and the Albert Memorial. The area is also known as ‘Albertopolis’, because it results from Prince Albert’s personal quest to promote art and education in Britain. What he and others left for us is probably the greatest concentration of decorative art in London.
Meet outside the front entrance to the Victoria & Albert Museum on Cromwell Road at 7pm. The walk finishes at the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park and covers less than 1km. The nearest tube to the start and finish is South Kensington.
Each tour is followed by an optional visit to a historic London pub.
Cost: GBP 10 per person.
