    Description

Good Honest Folk is delighted to be launching a new live music series, and who better to kick us off than folk musician Greg Russell with support from Jon Wilks.

Greg is fresh from the Radio 2 Live stage in Hyde Park, where he performed in September to an audience of 40,000. The Band of Love played songs from their Folk Fever album, and had the crowd dancing with their folky version of Gimme the Night and other disco favourites.

When performing solo, Greg sings a mix of original and traditional songs accompanied by guitar and bouzouki. He has a fine voice that's 'full of character' (The Telegraph). He performs and tours widely, and is an established musician on the UK folk scene, having won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award back in 2013. His debut solo album, Inclined to be Red, came out in 2017. Since then, Sheffield-based Greg has been involved in many collaborations including two projects which received 4 and 5 star reviews from The Guardian. He also devotes time to teaching song-writing and musical arrangement. Even turning his hand to radio broadcasting, this summer Greg launched his own weekly folk show on BBC Radio Sheffield.

Jon Wilks sings and plays trad songs in a fingerpicking rub-a-dub style. His debut solo album, Songs from the Attic, was released in 2017 - 'his love for folk music manifests itself throughout this lovely album' (Folk Radio UK). For Jon, folk songs are musical snapshots into lives and times gone by and performing old songs is a way to remember people and lives, often with huge dollops of cheek and tragedy.
