The Hampstead Jazz Club brings you Galleass Live, a project of Italian guitarist and composer Antonio Marzinotto!
Galleass Live prides itself on blending modern jazz, world influences, and cinematic textures. Their latest album, 'Short Stories', recorded on a London canal boat, features seven original compositions showcasing Marzinotto’s lyrical writing and the ensemble’s vibrant interplay. With a mix of melodic richness, improvisational energy, and evocative storytelling, Galleass delivers an intimate and engaging experience for audiences, offering both familiar jazz elements and fresh, original music that reflects years of travel, cultural exploration, and creative collaboration.
ANTONIO MARZINOTTO
Antonio Marzinotto is an artist working at the crossroads of modern jazz, cinematic atmospheres, and global musical influences. Based in London since 2004, Marzinotto has developed a distinctive voice shaped by years of performance, teaching, travel, and collaboration across the European and UK jazz scenes.
The Galleass Project was conceived as a musical vessel — a space where composition, improvisation, and storytelling meet. Its latest album, 'Short Stories', features seven original compositions written by Marzinotto. Each piece is a self-contained narrative, reflecting places, emotions, and moments encountered along the way. The album was uniquely recorded on a boat on a London canal, capturing a sense of movement, intimacy, and transition that is central to the project’s identity.
'Short Stories' has already received international recognition. It was selected as one of the “Albums of the Month” by Guitar Club Magazine (Italy), and a review has recently appeared in JazzWise (UK). The project is also currently in discussion with a UK record label regarding a future release.
Alongside his original work, Marzinotto remains deeply connected to the jazz tradition. He has recently performed at prestigious venues such as Alfie’s Jazz Club in London, and he appeared at Teatro La Fenice in Venice with legendary vocalist Rachel Gould. He is also an active educator and currently teaches guitar at Imperial College London, further strengthening his ties with the city’s vibrant and diverse music community.
For the Hampstead Jazz Club, Antonio Marzinotto presents the Galleass Quartet, performing selections from 'Short Stories' alongside a curated repertoire of Great American Songbook standards, reimagined through a contemporary and personal lens. The set draws inspiration from the language of artists and composers such as Miles Davis, Billy Strayhorn, and Benny Golson, blending lyricism, swing, modal colours, and modern textures with a distinctive European sensibility.
The result is an expressive and engaging performance — rooted in tradition, informed by travel, and shaped by a uniquely personal musical journey.
“A Walk has a dreamy, suspended emotion that the ensemble digs into and develops... Marzinotto’s musical language reaches beyond the jazz vernacular, incorporating many influences but always focusing on melody and precision.” - Five Finger Review
“In an increasingly auto-tuned and electronic music industry, soul, as well as skill, are displayed in abundance, both in the performances on this album and in its production.” - London Jazz News
