Our next episode of Creative One Off Walks will feature London-based architect – trio Red Deer. Red Deer are the design minds behind Burning Man’s much celebrated sculpture Luz, a six-meter high sculpture dedicated to light.

In the Nevada desert Luz called upon the audience to interact with it. From the outside it appeared like a mirrored pyramid blurring the line of the horizon. From the inside this otherwise ethereal structure functioned as a kaleidoscope as the acrylic triangles refracted members reflections and distorting them further by changing the light spectrum to reveal new geometric landscapes.

As all of our One Off Walks, From Shoreditch to Burning Man, is an opportunity to meet London’s creative talent and the inspiration behind their work. Quoting Chuck Close “Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself” Red Deer will guide us through their creative processes.

On this two-hour walk through the streets of Hackney and Shoreditch, guests will tour an area Red Deer have been calling home since their first years of independent practice to the present day as a more established international design firm. Guests will learn how Red Deer’s designs are directly influenced not only by the process of creating, but also by their environment, be it Hackney’s grit or Shoreditch’s graffiti.

Visit a kitchen showroom hidden down a back alley, a tattoo parlour where line and form become indelible, through Broadway Market & Columbia Road, ending with coffee or tea at Soho Works, to see how ideas can become tangible reality with a demonstration around 3D printing. At Soho Works you’ll also gain insight into the story of Luz, the sculpture Red Deer designed and took to Burning Man.

The walk is a chance to meet this talented tri0 and to experience first-hand Red Deer’s instinctive playfulness, combined with their hardworking ethic, which brought these three architects together.
