Violin & electronics, interdisciplinary performance, free improvisation and experimental ambience drawn from a boundaryless ranges of traditions and influences.

Tobias is an interdisciplinary artist/performer, working across mediums and genres. As a musician, he draws on influences from the worlds of free improvisation, experimental ambience, folk and traditional world music, hip hop, avant-pop and naive art. His music pays particular attention to small, subtle sounds, allowing incidental background noise to filter through recordings and into the ambience of his music.

His new album ‘A Beige Kind of Grey’ has received rave reviews from a host of online blogs and magazines, describing it as ‘world-class’, ‘an absolute masterpiece’, and the sound of 'an artist stepping into their prime.’ As well as his solo work, Tobias is also the lead singer in Latvian Prog Metal band ‘Mattergy’, 1/3 of interdisciplinary performance trio ‘MYS’, and composer of ambient works as ‘Phosforest’ (quiet improvisations + found sounds). He was also a founding member of the Newcastle-based Zen improvisation group ‘Shunyata Improvisation Group’. His music has been played on Latvian National TV (LMT & LTV1), BBC Radio 3, BBC Lancs, and BBC Newcastle.

Mercurial violinist John Garner is one of the most exciting and unusual voices to emerge in recent years, combining immaculate technique with a fearless musicality and free-wheeling improvisational aesthetic.  A tireless experimenter, well-versed in multiple traditions John is graduate of the Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music & Drama, formally trained in classical, jazz and South Indian music, John defies categorisation and is continually seeking new avenues of expression.

For Fresh he presents new music for violin and electronics, drawing on classical, jazz, South Indian and Japanese traditions, focussed through the lens of free improvisation.
