    Textured, haunting & enigmatic music from multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, producer and DJ  Laila Sakini with unusual harmonies and sonorities from Paul Taylor on piano.

    Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, producer and DJ Laila Sakini hails from Melbourne’s diverse music scene, but currently dwells in London, her on and off home over the past few years. Her richly textured, haunting music has taken flight over a series of 2020–21 releases including Strada, Vivienne, Into The Traffic, Under The Moonlight, Princess Diana of Wales and her 2017 collaboration with poet Lucy Van, Figures.

    Laila’s piano based debut work Vivienne was listed in several top 10 AOTY entries by the likes of Boomkat and XLRTR. Her latest work, under alias Princess Diana of Wales, was again listed in the top 10 albums of the year by Boomkat, 2021.

    Laila performs regularly at Cafe Oto and worldwide across all forms of spaces, a headline performer at Galeria Zé dos Bois, Berlin Atonal, Listen! festival, Meakusma x Arkaoda and more.

    She has been featured thrice in The Wire Magazine, graced the cover of Switzerland’s Zweikommasiben magazine, been featured on BBC1 in AQNB among several online publications.

    Laila Sakini is producing some of the most vital and brittle music of our time.” – Boomkat, 2020

    “An enigma with a purpose” – The Wire Magazine, 2021

    Paul Taylor is an accomplished pianist and keyboard player specialising in improvisation. The music is evocative, alluring and unique; combining unusual harmonies and sonorities with an original and fluid technique.

    In recent years, he has emerged as one of the most consistently interesting and innovative solo pianists, eschewing the conventional cliches associated with jazz improvisation in favour of an unorthodox, harmonically complex and often compellingly beautiful musical language that is often inspired by the classical tradition. Nonetheless, his playing also encapsulates the restless capacity for invention that is a cornerstone of jazz.

    Paul Taylor was a 2018 northern line R6 ambassador artist supported by Jazz North, using public funding from Arts Council England.

    He also participated in Cheltenham Jazz Festival's prestigious Creative Lab collaborative sessions in April 2021.

    "Brilliant": Stuart Maconie, BBC Radio 6 "Freak Zone".

    "A series of harmonically and melodically rich, compelling improvisations": London Jazz News, February 2021.

    "A solo improviser of outstanding scope and originality", "...his solo excursions on piano proceed with an unpredictable but constantly gripping logic that often feels as close to the richly lyrical and harmonic approach of Romantic period classical composers as it does to jazz": Paul Bream's Jazz Alert.

    "It’s incredible that Taylor can create such a full and immense sound and feeling with only solo piano": Jazz North East

    "Gorgeous": The Guardian
