Improv Comedy PlayShop: Fun, Play and Spontaneity @ Tate Modern Turbine Hall

"Fun is a spiritual thing. It is often a healing thing. It changes our perspective: on ourselves, our bodies, our relationships, our community. It changes our energy, our mood, our worldview. It brings us moments of happiness, of peace, freedom. It frees us even from ourselves.

    - Bernard De Koven –

This is a one off opportunity to participate in an in Improv Comedy Playshop at the grand space of the turnbine hall of the Tate Modern.

This workshops is based on Improv Comedy games that will get you cracking up like in seconds. This is a 2 hour session where we will have plenty of time to explore playfulness and laughter.

If you are new to the Improv Comedy Playshop, you will find this as an easy and gentle introduction into improvised comedy games. This is a closed, intimate space where we will explore play and playful in a more relaxed environment.

Improv Comedy playshop is a physical, active form of practice, laughter comes easily and effortless through play and being playful. We work with psychology of laughter and put into practice the techniques that generate laughter.

    Laughter and play helps to:

    - bring back the joie de vivre -

    -relax mentally and physically -

    - reduce stress -

    - relate to yourself and others in a playful way -

    - helps with self acceptance & self love -

    - eases anxiety and depression -

    - improves social and communication skills -

    - improves emotional resilience & listening -

    - helps you to be joyful & present -

    - helps you to accept the moment now -

    - the more you laugh, the more you can laugh -

    - the easier you can laugh, it gets easier to help others to laugh -

In fact, research shows that good humor and laughter may:

    Buffer you against depression

Reduce stress and the impact of stress on the body

    Improve self-esteem

Reduce loneliness and increase bonding with others

Improve quality of life, even for people coping with cancer or chronic disease

Increase immunity—your body's ability to fight infection

    Improve pain tolerance

This workshop is based on Improv Comedy games played to create spontaneity, playfulness, fun and laughter. These games have been used for centuries to cultivate sense of belonging, trust, participation, being present in your body, to create sense of joy and joie de vivre.

Here list a list for some of the games we will be playing

    http://improvencyclopedia.org/games/index.html

Most of the games we will be playing are based on Keith Johnstone's Impro System. The games are split-attention games and techniques that engage the conscious mind so that the intuitive mind can take over. The games require total commitment and involvement to get the most out of the experience.

Each individual game comes from a long tradition and experience of human behaviour and psyche. These games primarily developed actors and their art on stage. The same games can help us to understand ourselves and become more apt on the stage of life.

No previous experience or knowledge is required, just come along and enjoy.
