    Description

Free!! FRANKLY...ON TUESDAY - BBC Culture's Ginny Frankly in conversation with Former TV Personality, Page 3 Stunna and now Mindfulness Guru, GAYLE TUESDAY! Sunday 10 April at Aces & Eights, Tufnell Park. Doors 5.30pm, show 6pm!

    Work in progress for...

BBC RADIO CULTURE'S GINNY FRANKLY IN CONVERSATION WITH FORMER PAGE THREE MODEL AND NOW MINDFULNESS, REIKI AND MAKE-UP GURU, GAYLE TUESDAY!

Welcome to the new character show from BRENDA GILHOOLY and ABI ROBERTS....FRANKLY…ON TUESDAY... An Evening with celebrated former Page 3 model Gayle Tuesday, hosted by BBC Radio Culture's Ginny Frankly.

Comedians Brenda Gilhooly (Jack Dee Show, Friday Night Live, The Paul O’Grady Show, Gayle's World) and Abi Roberts (Newsrevue, The Vagina Monologues, R4 Midweek, Outlook and Weekend) present a new chapter in radio history with FRANKLY…ON TUESDAY.
    ...
FRANKLY…ON TUESDAY is a joyous spoof of genteel topical radio shows that sees Roberts (fresh from becoming the first UK comedian to perform in Russia in Russian!) assume the role of Ginny Frankly, presenter of BBC Radio Culture's In Your Era, Ladies in the Afternoon and Book Bin.

Ginny’s latest engagement for her flagship show, FRANKLY…ON TUESDAY, is at the never-more-than-never prestigious Little Fumpton-On-Sea Book Festival where she is interviewing former model and actress Gayle Tuesday (Brenda Gilhooly), about her debut book, They Call Me A Woman…Because I Am One (a book written for women by a woman).

The book looks at Gayle’s new career as a diet expert, Mindfulness Guru, and advocate of “Femininism”. Packed with worldly womanly wisdom, They Call Me A Woman…Because I Am One also gives useful tips for the young and old about how to be an attractive woman, how to use mascara and how to combat the Patriarchy using recipes and a blusher brush. As well as her new career as an author, Gayle discusses with Ginny her love of Spandau Ballet, charity work and pets and she reveals all about some very famous lovers who got away (presented in association with Sennakot™”).

    About the performers:
Brenda Gilhooly first appeared on British television in 1991 with Channel 4 series Remote Control and then with !Viva Cabaret! in 1993, alongside similar character-based acts such as Lily Savage and Bob Downe. She has since appeared on shows such as The Jack Dee Show and Lily Live!, Friday Night Live, Saturday Night Live, The Paradise Club, The Paul O’Grady Show, as well as her own series Gayle's World in 1996. Most of her recent appearances have been as characters other than Gayle Tuesday, notably on Harry Hill's TV Burp on which she is a writer as well as an occasional performer. Gilhooly returned to television as Gayle Tuesday in 2010 with the Living series Gayle Tuesday: The Comeback. Brenda is currently in production for her KickStarter funded sitcom, The Mayoress, which features cameos from Ramesh Ranganathan, Jack Dee, Michele Collins and Harry Hill.

    Press:
Gayle Tuesday makes a welcome return to the screen in Gayle Tuesday: The Comeback. It was Gayle who memorably introduced the phrase "Oi, tits first! I'm not a slag", to British television. A decade on we find Gayle, the comic creation of actress Brenda Gilhooly, in denial of middle age and intent upon a return to the world of celebrity. It is all highly enjoyable and consistently funny!”. Harry Venning, The Stage.

“Brilliant attempt at a comeback from Brenda Gilhooly's comedy character. There's been a lot done about the desperation of the minor celeb, since even before Extras, but that doesn't detract from some cracking set pieces: the brutal 'public appearance' in a shopping centre - "I used to be on the telly a lot in the 90s. I was a topless model. Would you like a picture? No? Oh."; the reality cooking show with potato carving competition where the competitors are given a picture each of the Pope, the Queen, Nelson Mandela and Brian from Big Brother. "And as an amazing surprise we've got the winning potato's real life counterpart here!" "What? Nelson Mandela could be here?" It's all very good and script-edited by Harry Hill, who shows up as a wonderfully discomfited version of himself.” tvBite

“Gayle Tuesday, a (spoof) Page 3 girl who had her own series in 1996, is ready for a comeback. And Living is there to mock-ument her every move. As a show about fame, there are moments of flair when it shifts towards Gayle's grotesque ambition and oneupmanship (a Toyah Willcox family funeral is particularly Partridge-like). Good fun, with game guest roles from Harry Hill (who script edits), Heston Blumenthal, Paul O'Grady and Ainsley Harriott.” - The Guardian

“The inanities of the world of the minor celebrity are nicely skewered in this spiky mockumentary starring Brenda Gilhooly as the busty Gayle Tuesday, a former Page 3 girl desperate to break into TV. There's a tragic kind of humour to the dim and deluded Tuesday as she attempts to get noticed once again - and for more than the obvious reason. She lies her way to an appearance on an afternoon reality cookery show with Ainsley Harriott, then she blags an audition with Elle Macpherson on Britain's Next Top Model. The script is by Gilhooly and Harry Hill.” - Simon Horsford, The Telegraph

Abi Roberts trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and gained prominence in comedy and sketch shows, including the satirical comedy Newsrevue, Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues and Jonathan Harvey’s stage show, Taking Charlie. She has also appeared as a Guest contributor on BBC Radio 4’s Midweek, Weekend and Outlook. Abi has just filmed her first sitcom pilot for Sky 1 playing a Russian woman Irina in Cameron Gordon’s Bucketless. A regular on the stand-up comedy scene, Abi has performed as herself at major venues including The Glee Club, The Stand, The Kings’ Head, Back Yard Comedy Club, Jongleurs and Manford’s Comedy Clubs. She recently became the first UK comic to perform in Russia, in Russian, completing three nights of shows to packed-out houses at Moscow Comedy Club.

    Press:
“Dangerous and hilarious and the very opposite of consensus comedy...(Roberts) has raw but relatable originality and a preternatural comfort with herself onstage and is she is unstoppable. She bounds onstage, robust, already laughing, nimbus of blond hair aswirl, genuinely happy to be there – it’s the rest of life that’s almost unbearable - and takes down target after target, rapid-fire, infectious: the porn-like fantasy of the cooking show, the depredations of shape wear. She’s a master of self-deprecation but doesn’t hinge on it. She has a very graphic bit about her iPod being on shuffle, and she kills with it." - New Statesman

"Truly hysterical Abi Roberts has definitely got the moves. She does it all with genuine charm and character, with big laughs. Abi takes apart Loose Women and she completely, superbly annihilates it. She uses her vocal skills to mock and her Jane McDonald impression is worth seeing alone. Likewise her take on Celine Dion is brilliantly done - clever, funny and well performed. Roberts has an imposing range of talents and her impressions are, well, impressive. She really is more than just a stand-up. The audience was definitely left wanting more". Chortle.

"...one of our top 20 newer stand-ups to see in 2015, Abi Roberts is brilliantly funny and charming. She's a true comedy genius" – GQ Magazine.

"The audience really laughed a lot throughout and Abi delivered an excellently energetic and thoroughly engaging set. Each story she tells is so dynamic and over the top it can’t but capture the audience’s attention, and she got lots of big laughs. Great performance – big response!" Comedy Central

"This is Abi’s first solo stand-up hour in Edinburgh, three years into her comedy career and she is a rather magnificent blonde bundle of energy, making quite an entrance, literally rushing the stage. It’s funny, the audience laughed and she hadn’t said a word. A bit of banter with the jam packed audience later, it’s apparent that she’s funny, quick, a little risqué and can work a room. The good first impression continued as Abi started her set with a tight and very funny routine. The laughs continued and they laugh longer and louder. Abi’s take on sex from a woman’s point of view went down well with the audience and a family story that Abi returns to throughout her set provided more light and shade than is normally found on a comedy stage. It was personal and provided for a touching and unexpected turn of events. Abi’s voice filled the room, she’s a natural physical comedian and a great live act. She kept the audience laughing and with her throughout the hour. It's fast-paced, high-octane comedy with brilliant routines...entertaining throughout and leaves everybody wanting more." – Gigglebeats.
