Hampstead Jazz Club is delighted to present an evening of refined jazz artistry featuring vocalist Freddie Benedict and pianist Chris Bland. Together, this expressive duo explores the enduring beauty of the Great American Songbook alongside original material that honours the spirit of classic jazz while speaking with a contemporary voice.

With a deep musical connection and shared love of jazz tradition, Freddie and Chris bring warmth, subtlety, and fresh perspective to beloved repertoire. This elegant duo presents a carefully curated selection of classic standards from the Great American Songbook, celebrating timeless melodies and lyrical sophistication.

The performance will also include a couple of Freddie’s original compositions, highlighting his distinctive voice as a songwriter. Expect an evening of world-class musicianship, heartfelt storytelling, and beautifully crafted jazz.

CHRIS BLAND

Chris Bland is a highly respected pianist on the UK jazz scene, known for his tasteful touch, harmonic depth, and sensitive accompaniment. A versatile and intuitive musician, Chris has performed extensively across leading jazz venues and festivals, collaborating with a wide range of vocalists and instrumentalists. His playing is rooted in the jazz tradition, yet marked by a modern clarity and lyrical sensibility that allows melodies to breathe and stories to unfold naturally.

FREDDIE BENEDICT

Freddie Benedict rose to prominence as lead vocalist with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, a role he held for ten years, gaining invaluable experience performing at major venues and festivals across the UK and beyond. Drawing inspiration from iconic vocalists such as Chet Baker, Nat King Cole, and Mel Tormé, Freddie has developed a distinctive style characterised by warmth, emotional honesty, and narrative depth. His original compositions reflect a deep respect for jazz songwriting traditions while exploring themes of love, longing, and the human condition.

Together, Freddie and Chris share a natural musical rapport that brings intimacy and spontaneity to every performance. Their interpretations of standards by composers such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Antonio Carlos Jobim feel both timeless and freshly considered, while Freddie’s original songs sit seamlessly alongside the classics.

Set within the welcoming and atmospheric surroundings of Hampstead Jazz Club, this special performance offers audiences the chance to experience two outstanding jazz artists up close. Whether you are a devoted jazz listener or discovering the genre for the first time, this promises to be an evening of elegance, emotion, and exceptional musicianship.
