Aimed at painters who already have experience painting the figure in watercolour, this course addresses specifically the distorting effect of the human body submerged in water. Initially, participants will develop studies from photographic references. Next, they will choose one of their studies to develop a large-format painting, following a teacher’s demonstration. This process implies an understanding of the different rhythms of water, as well as its transparency, reflections and distortions. Thus, the participants will be able to paint the various possibilities of interaction between the figure and the aquatic environment.
- Introduction: historical references and contemporary approaches.
- Water in watercolour: transparency and overlapping exercises.
- Figure-water composition: colour studies and the distortions of the submerged figure.
- Demonstration and guidance of painting in large format.
