Description

Sinatra called her ‘regal’; Duke Ellington called her ‘the queen’. Jo Harrop pays tribute to the sultriest songstress of all, Peggy Lee, with Alex Webb (piano), Henry Gilbert (bass), Joel Prime (drums) and special guest Tony Kofi (alto sax), Harrop delivers moving renditions of Peggy Lee classics such as Fever, Why Don't You Do Right and Folks Who Live On The Hill.

Peggy Lee (May 26, 1920 – January 21, 2002) was one of the great figures of jazz and American popular song, with a career spanning six decades. She wrote and sang for Disney’s ‘Lady And The Tramp’ as well as appearing in the gritty drama ‘Pete Kelly’s Blues’ and had a string of hits stretching from her early days with Benny Goodman until the 1990s.

Songs featured in the show include Peggy Lee’s Fever, Why Don’t You Do Right and The Folks Who Live On The Hill.

Jo Harrop recently guested on the album ‘Call Me Lucky’ by Alex Webb & The Copasetics, delivering what jazzman.com called ‘a smoothly sumptuous vocal’ on the Webb original ‘End of The Affair’. The album received four-star reviews in the Guardian and Evening Standard. Guest saxophonist Tony Kofi is one of the most in-demand players on the UK scene and has worked with some of the giants of US jazz, including Ornette Coleman and the World Saxophone Quartet.
