Join Ferus Animi // Terra Nova founder Tom English in the New Year for a week of Online Classes, exploring the practical and theoretical basis to our practice-as-research training methodologies.

*Class recordings are uploaded each day for asynchronous participants. Many participants sign up and interact with the recordings at a convenient time to their own timezone/schedule*

Each day will comprise of a daily mindfulness-based meditation practice and a daily form of movements exploring conditioning, mobility, longevity, endurance and cognition. This will be followed by a Q&A on the daily training principles and form components. 

*Sessions will be recorded and uploaded daily for all participants, and will be available until the 9th April 2026*

Sessions are designed to be engaged with in any reasonable space, whether that is at home or in a studio. You will at minimum need a small space to move around in and a notepad. 

Training Principles we aim (but cannot guarantee) to touch upon will include: 

- Neuroplastic Principles of the Human Brain

- The Role of Failure in Motor Learning and Skill Acquisition

- Hebbian Theory and Parasitic Neuromotor Activation

- Luria's Kinaesthetic Melody Metaphor

- The Role of Visualisation in Motor Performance

- Chronotype, Circadian Rhythm and the State Scale of the Autonomic Nervous System

- Burch's 4 Stages of Learning

-Conscious Frames of Experience; The TIMES & I Acronym

and anything else we have time for!

All sessions will take place on ZOOM Video Conferencing Platform. Please make sure you have the appropriate set-up to join all sessions in a timely and effective manner. All relevant joining information will be sent out by Monday the 5th January 2026

Ferus Animi // Terra Nova is a renowned specialist movement organisation based in Europe and the UK. Our mission statement is to bring education around movement, meditation and wilderness practices to the masses. Our practice-as-research methodology explores the fields of neuroscience, evolutionary physiology, functional biomechanics, performance psychology and applied philosophy. Our educational programs aim to locate and disseminate pioneering research from the forefront of scientific and artistic thought, in relevant and accessible workshop formats that enrich the practices of our students and collaborators.

Tom English is a lecturer, movement specialist and dance scientist, and the founder of Ferus Animi // Terra Nova. He studied at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance (Foundation Degree), London Contemporary Dance School (Bachelor of Arts with Honours), the Oxford School of Drama (Postgraduate Diploma), Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (Master of Science with Outstanding Distinction), and Barca Universitas (Certificate in Neurobiology and Sports Performance/Certificate in Neuroscience and Training). He is a current student at the University of Oxford, studying for a Master of Studies degree in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy. Tom wrote his Master of Science Thesis on the relationships between mindfulness-based training and flow states in contemporary performance practices.

Tom has presented research at institutions including p.a.r.t.s., the UK conservatoires (Rambert/LCDS/NSCD/Laban), The Embodiment Conference and the European School of Osteopathy amongst others. He designed and is the Course Leader of the MA Dance: Performance Programme at London Contemporary Dance School / University of the Arts London, and a member of faculty at the Oxford School of Drama, where he has built a course of curriculum on performance psychology/physiology and movement studies. Tom has worked as a movement consultant for Warner Brothers, Working Title Film, Netflix and Universal Pictures.

Tom's personal practice is informed by ongoing research under the teachings of Grandmaster Tae Yong Lee of Sang Moo, Moshé Feldenkrais, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Kristin Linklater, Wim Hof, Professor Guilherme Arashiro, Mestre Itamar, David Zambrano, Bruno Caverna, Linda Kapetanea & Jozef Frucek and the writings of Shunryū Suzuki, Yoshi Oïda and 'neuroplastician' Norman Doidge.
