Description

Join food author and nutritionist Asa Linéa Simonsson from Linéa Nutrition to learn all about the process of fermenting to preserve food and make it more digestible and nutritious. Valued for its complex tastes, fermented foods are a powerful aid to digestion and a protection against disease.

The class will include:

    • Your ingredients and starter pack of fermenting jars delivered in a box to your door* (if you book by end of 16 Nov**)
    • Learning the nutritional benefits of fermented foods
    • How to make kombucha
    • Techniques for making sauerkraut, kimchi and pickles
    • How to make nut cheeses
    • How to make fermented chutneys to go with the cheeses
    • Extensive recipe handout
    • Online troubleshooting support for 3 weeks following the class 
    • First 10 people to book get a kombucha scoby delivered!*  

    *We can only post to UK addresses. You can order a scoby from happykombucha.com but it's not essential for the class

    **If you book after this date a discounted rate will apply and you will need to source your own ingredients and all jars

Åsa Linéa Simonsson is the author of 'Fermentation - how to make your own sauerkraut, kimchi, brine pickles, kefir, kombucha, vegan dairy, and more' published by Anness Publishing Ltd. Asa grew up making ferments in her native Sweden; a trained nutritionist, naturopath and nurse, she runs a busy natural nutrition and health practice, Linéa Nutrition, in the UK combined with popular workshops and retreats. 


    Fee*: £75 (£60 Concession**) inclusive of VAT

    * This fee is used to fund our programme of free courses to vulnerable and low-income community groups. By attending a Made In Hackney masterclass you get a great learning experience AND you’re providing our charity with essential funds for our community meal service providing free nutritious, tasty meals to households who need them during these challenging times. 

    ** Concessionary rate available for students, pensioners, unemployed and low waged. 

    EQUIPMENT LIST

      • We are able to supply a starter pack of 3 x 350ml kilner-style jars. If you need additional jars, you may have some kilner-style jars at home or you can also use used jam jars. 
      • 1.5 litre jar for kombucha (lid not necessary) or just use a large bowl
      • Mixing bowl
      • Bowl for nuts to ferment in
      • A variety of sized spoons. large and small for tasting
      • Measuring spoons
      • Scales
      • Blender or if you don't have one, a food processor - essential for making cheese
      • Gloves (optional)
      • Grater
      • Sharp knife
      • Chopping board
      • Elastic bands
      • Old clean tea towel (to use to cover your ferments) or you can use squares of any breathable fabric 

    Refunds: we require a minimum of 5 days' notice for any cancellations or transfers once you have booked onto a class.

    Vouchers: To redeem a voucher purchased on our site, please contact us to book a place. If contacting us by email please attach your voucher. If telephoning, have your voucher to hand so you can quote the voucher number.

    • I have not received my ticket via email. What should I do?

      The first thing to do is check your spam/junk filters and inboxes. Your tickets were sent as an attachment and can be thought of as spam by some email services. Alternatively, you can always find your tickets in your Billetto account that you can access in the browsers or the dedicated Billetto app. For more help with this, read here.

    • I wish to cancel my ticket and receive a refund. What should I do?

      The approval of refunds is entirely at the event organiser’s discretion, and you should get in contact with the event organiser to discuss what options are available to you.     • I have registered on the waiting list, what happens now?

      If more tickets become available you will be notified (by email) amongst others who have joined the list. Purchasing is on a first-come first-serve basis. For more information, read here.
