    Description

    Femme Film Fest

For POW! Festival Fringe @ Tom Thumb Theatre

    Wednesday 9th and Friday 11th March, 7-9pm

A mini-festival of moving image art comprising of “Femme Fantastic : The Carnal Screen” a not-to-be missed arthouse selection from USA’s premiere moving image art archive The Filmmakers Co-Op, alongside shorts from local film makers gathered by Helga Dorothea Fannon and Megan Garrett-Jones. Friday screening will include time for informal discussion.

Femme Fantastic : The Carnal Screen, curated by M.M. Serra is an inspired program of sexy films produced and directed by influential U.S. film artists:  Peggy Ahwesh, Katherine Bauer and MM Serra. This program depicts vital parts of human nature - the body, sex, and intimacy with cathartic release of repressed anxieties, and the push to think critically and engage in conversations about the complex political issues that surround representations of sexuality in contemporary society.

Alongside this exciting programme, Thanet-based artists Helga Dorothea Fannon and Megan Garrett-Jones have gathered a local selection using the jumping off point “Tending, and other feminine concerns” to look at gendered labour and to connect feminist filmmakers. This event feeds into research for their project ‘As If by Magic…’, exploring women’s disappearance and motherhood (supported by Jerwood Arts 1:1 Fund) from which they will screen a short work-in-progress.

By sharing and celebrating experimental film we emblazon new modes of presenting bodies and subjectivities beyond oppressive mainstream representations.

Suggested donation £5 per screening session
