Description
To launch Bompas & Parr’s new catering arm, the South London studio will be opening its doors to the public to host an immersive Feast of Flowers on 26th October 2017. This will be a one-off dining experience delivered in a flower-filled setting, where the scents are seductive, the flavours are floral and edible flowers abound, allowing guests to interact with nature as never seen before and go behind the scenes of the studio’s workspace.
Sponsored by Perrier Jouet, this will be the first public feast held inside the studio and will celebrate the launch of the catering department and will feature such wonders as an interactive poisons bar, uncanny apples that taste of bananas, shots from carnivorous plants, flaming swords and a whole host of flowers – viola and borage, elderflower, jasmine, nettle, fennel, nasturtuium presented in provocative gustatory formats.
During Feast of Flowers, the studio will be premiering two of Bompas & Parr’s newest party pieces among other impressive tricks. The first, London Fog, is a flavoured mist podium from which a delicately scented fog is released from within for guests to smell and taste, upon which London’s iconic landscape will be mounted. The rose and champagne flavoured fog will then flow between the buildings giving the impression they are engulfed in heaving banks of mist, a mist that you can taste. One of the most common topics of small-talk of yesteryear in London was the colour of the fog in the various parts of town, in west London it was thought to be purplish, while in the East it took on a greenish hue (known as the pea-souper).
The second party piece will be The Chladni Punch Bowl, a vibrating punchbowl filled with 80-litres of cocktail allowing sound to be visualised across the surface of the drink. Chladni patterns are visualized sonic information, which were first discovered by Ernst Chladni in 1787, pioneering a new way of engaging with sound and revolutionising the study of acoustics. Sound is more than a simple sensorial experience; it is a pulsating and unseen multidimensional space, affecting everything from the water in our cells, to, as recent studies conclude, the sensitivity of our taste buds. The Chladni Punch Bowl, is intended as a harmonising vessel of sonics, spectacle and taste, for a total sensory immersion. This installation was first exhibited at the Stelelijk Museum in Amsterdam so you can drink from a genuine museum piece.
