Description
For the last FASHION DIALOGUE of the year, Matteo Augello will be joined by Laura Nobile, Coordinator of Tirelli Costumi, Italy’s most awarded costume house, to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
Umberto Tirelli opened his costume atelier in Rome in 1964, with only two sewing machines, five seamstresses, a milliner, a secretary and a driver-warehouseman. In the first year, Tirelli Costumi made the costumes designed by Ferdinand Scarfiotti for the production of “The Cherry Orchard" directed by Luchino Visconti, and would go on to make the costumes of almost all the films by Luchino Visconti with the designs of Piero Tosi.
Tirelli Costumi is a world-renowned costume house, whose creations won 17 Academy Awards. These include “Casanova” (1976, dir. Federico Fellini), designed by Danilo Donati; "Amadeus" (1984, dir. Milos Forman), designed by Teodor Pistek; "the Age of Innocence" (1993, dir. Martin Scorsese), designed by Gabriella Pescucci; and "Marie Antoinette" (2006, dir. Sofia Coppola), designed by Milena Canonero. Since the death of its founder Umberto Tirelli in 1990, the company has been led his friends and heirs, under the guidance of CEO Dino Trappetti.
Laura Nobile has been involved in the company management for many years and has become Trappetti’s right hand. In this role, she has also contributed to exhibitions in Italy and abroad on the history of company. Since 2008, Nobile has been serving as Coordinator: her work starts from the first contact with the costume designer and continues with the supervision of the project until its conclusion.
