Winner of the 2012 BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition, Laura van der Heijden has attracted attention worldwide for the graceful intensity of her playing and sensitivity of her sound and interpretations. 2018 marked the release of her debut album ‘1948’, which won the 2018 Edison Klassiek Award and the 2019 BBC Classical Music Magazine Newcomer Award. The CD has been hailed as “dazzling, imaginative and impressive”. Recent and future career highlights include recitals at Zürich Tonhalle and Wigmore Hall, a UK tour with IMS Prussia Cove, orchestral debuts with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony in Japan, the Hallé Orchestra, the Prague Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Join Laura and Fantasia Orchestra for an evening of Nordic and British music in the stunning setting of St Mary Magdalene's Paddington. Written only 6 years apart, Sibelius' Symphony no. 7 and Bridge's Oration offer the expansive sound world of post-war Europe (1924/1930). Both are structurally groundbreaking, and helped to change the direction of symphonic composition. Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite no. 1 is packed with drama and famous tunes, including 'In the Hall of the Mountain King'.
