Now in its 7th Year the Exe Hammer Paddleboard race returns on the 16 th September starting from the historic port of Topsham. The route then follows a channel course past the turf locks hotel from here on its a straight run down the Exe past Starcross and Lympstone, passing through the estuary entrance at Dawlish Warren the race finishes on the beach next to the Queens Drive car park.
The course is around 8km in length and is one of the most popular races on the paddleboard calendar. The race has been finished in previous years by elite paddlers in under an hour and with the tide assisting the paddlers all the way its a challenge that everyone should be able to complete.
There are a number of different classes that you can enter depending on the type of board that you are paddling with the recreational round nose class being the most popular. All paddlers need to register on this website as there will be no entries on the day. The Entries will close at 6pm on Saturday afternoon the 15th of September.
The race is once again supported by Exeter City Futures with further support from Rockfish Restaurants and Hanlons Brewery that supply much needed food and drink at the end of the race.
Registration for the event will be on Topsham Quay from 9.00 - 11.00 where all riders will need to sign in and collect their race bibs.
Briefing for the race will be at 11.15 again on the quay side. The start will occur at 12.00 .
All riders will need to arrange their own logistics with regard to dropping their equipment at the race site. It is recommended that paddlers should arrive at the quay side before 10.00 to drop paddleboards etc in the drop off area and sign in then go and park cars at the finish before either getting a lift back to the start or using the train.
All riders are encouraged to follow the Exe Hammer facebook page where any news and updates will occur.
