Ex Cathedra invites you to join their Academy of Vocal Music for a wonderful summer’s evening of music at the Barber Institute on Saturday 14th July.
Singers will greet audience members in the foyer with welcoming songs before processing into the concert hall to begin and end with Mozart’s first and last completed choral compositions. Mozart composed the first piece at the age of nine and the last piece of the evening, the popular Ave verum, was written barely six months before his tragic death. You will also hear famous settings of Beatus Vir by Mozart and Monteverdi, sung by the older members of the Academy and accompanied by talented Early Music instrumentalists from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire; and the younger members of the Academy will be singing a variety of repertoire they have learnt over this last term.
'The children and young people were so talented, enthusiastic, fun and confident, and the leaders matched that and more. The Academy is great!’ Audience member July 2017
Singers aged 4 to 18 years from the Children’s Academy, Junior Academy, Girls and Boys Academy will be led by Jeffrey Skidmore OBE and the Ex Cathedra Academy of Vocal Music team: Rob Challinor (principle accompanist), Rebecca Ledgard (Director of Education and Junior Academy conductor), Sally Spencer (Children’s Academy leader) and Suzzie Vango (Girls Academy conductor).
