    Engineering Group 2026 Annual Conference

    The Engineering Group of the Geological Society will host its 2026 Annual Conference between Thursday 9th April (6.00pm) and Saturday 11th April 2026 (16.30pm), with an optional full day field trip to the Suffolk Coast and classic landslides around Southend on Sunday 12th April, at Christ’s College Cambridge. 

    The 2026 Engineering Group Annual Conference will focus on the key themes of the Engineering Geology of Infrastructure Projects and will bring together practitioners and academics from our industry. 

    Keynote speakers will be:

    Helen Nattrass, former Chief Geologist, Channel Tunnel

    Dr Ursula Lawrence, Technical Director of Engineering Geology, WSP 

    John Davies, Senior Partner, Geotechnical Consulting Group

    Tracey Radford, Practice Director at AtkinsRéalis 

    Derek Butcher, Principal Engineer (Geotechnical Engineering), Southern Region · Network Rail

    Continued Professional Development Event


    While the conference itself is excellent CPD, we will be hosting a bespoke training session 11:00 – 17:30 on 9th April before the start of the full conference at 18.00. Sessions will focus on state-of-the-art approaches in engineering geology including aspects of groundwater in engineering geology, advanced desk study, earthworks and routes to CGeol. This training session will be of benefit to both applied geoscience students and Early Career professionals alike.

    The CPD training can be booked during registration for an additional £85 onto the ticket price (with includes lunch and refreshments).


    Field Trip

    The Conference will run an optional full day field trip on the Sunday and will visit the Suffolk coast and classic landslides around Southend. The return coach trip to Cambridge will drop off at either Southend or Colchester train stations for any onward travel

    The trip can be booked as part of the conference package with the option of Saturday night B & B, and an in-college dinner in the evening. The trip and will include a packed lunch.  Tickets can be purchased during registration for an additional £200 for the Saturday night room, dinner and breakfast or £95 for the Sunday trip without extra accommodation or meal. Both registrations will include a packed lunch.
