We are excited to present an evening of films looking at some of the most popular recreational sports around: running and skiing. We're screening a double bill of films with a very sporting link - each film follows a very personal journey into each respective sport with a look at the influence each sport has played in the directors' lives.
A double bill of documentaries by independent film makers, new to UK audiences. In a brilliant tribute to one of Bradford’s finest athletes, director James Slater uses fascinating original footage and updated interviews to tell the story of how his father David, a member of Great Britain's greatest middle-distance running generation, set a time trial record for a testing mountain run in Spain that still stands today. "El Ingles" himself will take audience questions alongside his son after the show.
Continuing the theme, Austrian director Richard Rossmann will premiere his film "Ski Heil", examining how his father, one of Austria's elite skiers of the 1930s, was conscripted along with his friends to train Nazi soldiers. Richard Rossmann will personally introduce the film and talk about his father's experiences, tracing not only the friends' pioneering achievements, but their shared love for skiing and the mountains which stayed with them over a lifetime - sometimes opening up glittering opportunities, sometimes providing a framework to overcome personal and political dilemmas.
