Eggshell Ceramic Workshop

From GBP 30.00

Location

Date

Oct 05 2019 14:00 - 18:00

Description

Eggshell Ceramic workshop run by Midushi Kochhar, will concentrate on a conscious material driven approach to forming objects out of food waste. Traditional resources are finite and expensive but waste is abundant and cheap. By retrieving some of these resources from the disposal stream and reimagining them in new contexts, we can add value to them; spread awareness and finally, revise the common perception about discarded materials. Learn how to use calcareous food waste, eggshells to make simple household objects such as coasters or a key tray. “Eggware” as coined by the tutor is a new technique, similar to ceramic making, developed by combining processed eggshells and a bio binder. Eggshells will be provided by various breakfast cafes in King’s Cross and through a creative, hands- on method we would make compostable Eggware objects from scratch.

Midushi Kochhar is London-based designer and material researcher from India who recently graduated in M.A. Industrial Design from Central St. Martins. With the mindset of solving problems by keeping the material first, she has created some radically new, aesthetic and useful products. Scientific process and an underlying theme of green design drive her creativity and her latest projects are being exhibited during the London Design Festival 2019 at the V&A Museum and Open Cell. She has been developing innovative ways of making eco materials and during the workshop. Midushi will also be sharing some of her original, DIY recipes with the participants.

The workshop is open to a maximum of 10 participants (age 15+) on a first come, first served basis. Attendance at the workshop costs £40 (£30 students) with all proceeds supporting STORE's After school club for local state school students.
