EFG 2023 - 'One of the best jazz festivals in the world' - The Guardian

The Hampstead Jazz Club is proud to be taking part in this year's EFG Jazz Festival, supporting this jazz extravaganza, and promising to bring you a lauded line-up of some of the best artists and jazz on the scene today!

As part of the EFG London Jazz Festival, to offer musicians a greater return for their performances, we are adding an additional £2.50 per ticket during the festival, all of which will go directly to the musicians. We hope you will support our musical community.

Saxophonist Matt Telfer, takes you on a humorous and heart felt journey of the very best in jazzy blues with his talented band, Them Dirty Blues. This five piece takes it's name from the breath-taking 1960 album by The Cannonball Adderley Quintet, paying homage to the rich and lyrical variations that Jazz Blues has to offer while touching on it's Gospel origins.

Band leader and saxophonist, Matt Telfer developed ‘Them Dirty Blues’ during lockdown. With a combination of his favourite jazz musicians and composers, the project would be ideal for encouraging people to venture out and experience live music after the pandemic. With its feel good vibe and band humour, the project showcases the very best of the jazz, blues and soul music.

    Matt Telfer

Band leader and saxophone player Matt Telfer has been an active member of the London music
scene for the last 25 years.

Originally from Stratford upon Avon, Matt moved to London in 2000 to pursue his musical passion and further his musical studies. Matt has since studied with Phil Woods, Tim Garland and Bob Mintzer.

Matt has played many of the UK's great venues and festivals including, Ronnie Scotts, Pizza Express, Jazz Cafe, Love Supreme Festival, Canary Wharf Jazz Festival and Ealing Jazz Festival.

    Gabor Dornyei

Gabor Dornyei is one of the most in demand and successful Solo Artists, Session Drummers, and Drum Clinicians/Educators of his generation who emerged out of Europe in recent years. Gabor’s diverse talent led him to perform all around the Globe, including USA, Asia, Africa, all over Europe & UK, Scandinavia, Russia and countless other places.

This outstanding drummer performed at the London Jazz Festival, Sziget Festival, Glastonbury Festival, Love
Supreme, London Latin Jazz Festival amongst hundreds of others and participated in the London production of
MJ Thriller Live World Tour for three consecutive years.

    Christian Prior

Christian grew up in a tiny, remote village on the beautifully bleak moors of the North of England where his days became filled with writing songs, playing piano, singing, and listening to as much music as he could. At the age of 18, with a burning desire to continue his musical journey, Christian moved to the thriving metropolis of London where he studied jazz and classical music. Followed by time honing his skills working as a freelance musician and finding his own artistic voice.

Christian’s music brings together his love for jazz, rock, classical music, electronica, as well as traditional music from across the globe. Soaring synths, rare grooves, and virtuosic piano solos underpin a vulnerable yet powerful voice singing subtle and well crafted lyrics. Both the the cold, dark beauty of the moors, and the frantic, vibrant energy of London can be heard in Christian’s eclectic sound.

"An incredible live show full of raging blues solos, thumping arrangements and hilarious band humour" - TIME OUT
