Date

Jul 01 2017 10:00 - 12:30

Description

Celebrating our namesake, Nicholas Culpeper, and his work as a horticulturalist, we’re hosting a monthly botanical drawing workshop to admire and document the edible flowers and produce that’s grown in our very own rooftop garden.

Hosted by a different artist each month, guests will get a crash course in botanical drawing by working from a table populated by numerous living botanicals; such as terrariums, ferns, flowers, and edible plants. All greenery is thanks to our friends over at London Terrariums

This month, Jennie Webber of Wildlife Drawing is taking the helm. Jennie is a freelance illustrator, printmaker and exhibiting artist and creates detailed hand-painted etchings and drawings that celebrate the diversity and complexity of nature. In 2014, she set up Wild Life Drawing with the aim of reconnecting those living in cities with the natural world through the art of drawing.

The morning will begin with an introduction to the table of edible botany by London Terrariums, and guests will be encouraged to select their subject matter. We will be drawing with pens and inks, focusing on the techniques of mark making to capture the fine detail and texture. The class will begin with a short media demonstration, then guests will be able to experiment and have fun with the different materials on offer.

Once you’ve finished your masterpieces, you can then choose to leave your work with us for the chance to for it to be framed on the walls of The Culpeper.

To finish off the session you will enjoy lunch on the roof terrace incorporating some of the edible produce from the centrepiece.
