Eastbourne Writing Retreat - 14/15 October 2017

From GBP 10.00

Location

Date

Oct 14 2017 10:00 - Oct 15 2017 18:00

Description

Join a weekend writing retreat, organised by writers for writers, at Eastbourne's new Devonshire Collective DC3 Workshop Space.

This will be a dedicated writing space for you to bring whatever you want to work on and write in the company and quiet hum of other writers.

A stone's throw from the beach, artisan ice cream on your doorstep and a super nice workshop space that's been recently converted especially for Eastbourne's new cultural quarter. What more could you ask for?

What happens

The plan for the day is simple:

  • 10am arrivals - bring your own tea/coffee/refreshments of choice
  • 10-10.30am - group decides on writing schedule for the day, house rules & housekeeping (brief discussion)
  • 10.30-4.30pm - write!
  • During day: 121 sessions with writer & editor Justine Taylor (optional)
  • 4.30-6pm - sharing work, networking, drinks (BYO)

Maximum space: 15 per day

Writers of all genres and level of experience are welcome.

The retreat will provide a dedicated quiet space, loosely structured (as explained above). The main rule is that we respect the shared need for quiet to work within, unless during agreed break times. And have fun, we hope.

You can either book for Just Write (£10) or Write + 121 Session EARLY BIRD (£20) or Write + 121 Session (£25).

You can book for just 1 day or book for both. We don't mind!

What do I bring

We suggest you bring everything you need to make your writing possible and comfortable, such as

  • pen, paper, notebook, laptop
  • cushion, scarf, blanket, jumper,
  • favorite tea, snacks, mug
  • talisman, desk ornaments
  • wine, chocolate, tequila
  • headphones
  • your own breakfast/lunch/dinner
  • anything else?

121 sessions

As part of the weekend, we are offering 15-minute 121 sessions with writer and editor Justine Taylor at only £10.

Justine Taylor worked as an editor at Random House for eight years before setting up in 2007 on her own. Since then, she has worked with a number of bestselling authors, as well as coaching beginning writers into print. As a writer, Justine won the 2015 Caledonia Novel award with her first novel The Chill Mark, and is currently at work on her second. You can find her on Twitter at @jayemmtee1.

Your 121 session can be used to discuss work/problems with writing/anything. Max 5 spaces per day, early booking highly recommended.

Before your 121, it will be helpful for Justine to have one of the following:

  • a short piece (1000 words max) that you'd like to discuss OR
  • synopsis OR cover letter for evaluation OR
  • anything you’re stuck on or concerned about

Please email Justine on jayteeeditor@gmail.com after you've booked your 121 with one of the above.

As a peer-led support community, we also encourage collaboration and support from other writers, a great resource that is free of charge.

We can also offer tailored bespoke support if that's what you're interested including reading, mentoring and further 121s.

What else

DC3 Workshop Space is a self-contained venue. The venue is fully accessible. There is strong wifi.

FAQ

  • I have not received my ticket via email. What should I do?

The first thing to do is check your spam/junk filters and inboxes. Your tickets were sent as an attachment and can be thought of as spam by some email services. Alternatively, you can always find your tickets in your Billetto account that you can access in the browsers or the dedicated Billetto app. For more help with this, read here.

  • I wish to cancel my ticket and receive a refund. What should I do?

The approval of refunds is entirely at the event organiser’s discretion, and you should get in contact with the event organiser to discuss what options are available to you. To get in touch with the event organiser, simply reply to your order confirmation email or use the "Contact organiser" form on the organiser's profile. For more help with this, read here.

  • I have registered on the waiting list, what happens now?

If more tickets become available you will be notified (by email) amongst others who have joined the list. Purchasing is on a first-come first-serve basis. For more information, read here.

  • Where do I find a link to an online event?

Check your order confirmation page or order confirmation email. Usually, the organiser of the event provides the details in the order confirmation email or they might send you a follow-up email with a link to their online event. You might also want to read the event description on Billetto where an event organiser should describe how to join the event online. For more information on this, read here.

  • What is refund protection and why would I need it?

Refund Protection provides you with the assurance that if unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances interfere with your ability to attend an event you can claim a refund. For more information on this, read here.
