Description
Celebrate the centenary of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man with Tony Chesterman’s widely celebrated stage adaptation!
A Portrait… documents the youth and adolescence of Joyce’s alter-ego Stephen Dedalus, a fledgling artist who seeks independence from the repressive religious and political forces of late nineteenth-century Ireland before setting out to forge in the smithy of his soul the uncreated conscience of his race. True to the spirit of Joyce’s formally innovative novel, this adaptation brings Stephen’s struggle to life with some inventive methods of its own.
