Descripción

This Christmas, DOC Supper is partnering with Peckham Spring for another great night of movies and food.

A night to eat, drink and be merry whilst enjoying the finest selection of short film, animation and documentaries.

You are invited to “Pay-What-You-Can” or make a donation and all proceeds will go to local charities. Team members from local charity projects will be present on the night to talk about their work and what the money raised will be going to support.

Films of the Night

Start of the evening - 7:00pm

  • Remue-Meninges - Christophe Clin (05:59)
    • What happens in our heads when we are about to meet someone on the street? Anguish, prejudice, expectation, surprise, disappointment … These few very brief moments are the nest of a real brainstorm!
  • Fish Story – Charlie Lyne (13:38)
    • Sometime in the 1980s, Caspar Salmon's grandmother was invited to a gathering on the Welsh island of Anglesey, attended exclusively by people with fish surnames. Or so he says. Thirty years later, filmmaker Charlie Lyne attempts to sort myth from reality as he searches for the truth behind this fishy tale.
  • Paramusical Ensemble – Tim Grabham (9:19)
    • This short documentary follows the preparation and performance of Activating Memory by the Paramusical Ensemble comprising of four severely motor-impaired patients and a string quartet at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, London, on 17 July 2015.
  • Pigeon Man – Michael Lyons (6:42)
    • A film about one man and his pigeons

INTERVAL - Enjoy Peckham Springs Food

  • American Renaissance – Ryan Scafuro (9:22)
    • Explore the fantastic world of Elizabethan England… in a small town in upstate, NY.
  • Old Pal – Dorothy Allen-Pickard (12:14)
    • A documentary-conversation with Caitlin McMullan about her experience of living with disability.
  • Dawn of the deaf – Rob Savage (11:54)
    • Director Rob Savage breathes life into a tired out film genre and tackles themes of disability, discrimination and sexual abuse, all in just 12 short minutes. Dawn of the Deaf is an emotionally-driven, thought-provoking and undeniably gripping watch, that will leave you hungry for more.
  • Don’t Have Me Back (George Barber) (3:59)
    • A group of deaf and partially deaf music enthusiasts to observe Childhood’s performance of ‘Don’t Have Me Back’, to explore how deaf audiences would experience a live gig. Led by Jacqui Beckford, a sign language interpreter, the audience react to the lyrics and the musical arrangement of the song. The energy of the band and Jacqui’s majestic interpretation is received positively by our audience, demonstrating that a musical performance isn’t just for hearing audiences

INTERVAL 2

  • The Things They Say – Dorothy Allen-Pickard (8:23)
    • A young girl finds herself estranged from her mother and goes out collecting conversations with people she meets around South London. Back in the isolation of her room she plays these recordings back to drown out the sound of the TV downstairs. All the conversations are unscripted and the characters play themselves. Official selection London Short Film Festival and Open City Doc Fest
  • The Bigger Picture (Animation) – Daisy Jacobs (7:25)
    • When it comes to acclaim in the short film world, prestige doesn’t come much bigger than seeing your film win a BAFTA and get nominated for an OSCAR (unless of course it won!). Add to this awards at dozens of film festivals worldwide and it’s easy to see why Daisy Jacobs’ treasured National Film and Television School Animation The Bigger Picture is regarded with such esteem.
  • Crack – Peter King (11:38)
    • Powerfully-performed with a pitch-perfect tone, 12-minute comedy Crack follows Jay and his gang, B.H.S. (Brixton Hit Squad), as they deal product, refine their ‘cook’ and go head-to-head with rival gangs.
  • Vali – Helvetica (Francois Mercier) (10:14)
    • VALI is a story based upon an old Scandinavian myth where the god VALI was conceived for the sole reason of seeking revenge. In this surrealistic film VALI is a young woman whose sole purpose is to seek revenge upon her lover Marco. It’s a fun story about female empowerment with a killer soundtrack!

INTERVAL 3

  • The Wall - Dorothy Allen-Pickard (3:35)
    • A man drives his car slowly through a mechanical carwash and leaves an affectionate answer phone message for his young daughter. He recalls moments from the weekend, as well as some distant memories they shared together. As he's pulled deeper into the machine, we witness what she does not: her father's gradual breakdown. Commissioned for Channel 4's Random Acts.
  • Mr. Madila - Rory Waudby-Tolley (8:37)
    • “Everything is mostly nothing. Look closely and you can see all the little bits and pieces, and all the gaps in-between”. Mr Madila or The Colour of Nothing documents a series of conversations between Rory Waudby-Tolley and a gifted spiritual healer, exploring the inner mind, the fabric of the universe, and the nature of reality itself, through the sacred art of animation. Oooooooh.
  • Battlecock! - Ben Mallaby (8:47)
    • The Dukinson brothers have finally beaten their arch rivals, but the Krullmuller sisters are out for blood and revenge is a dish best served underarm.
