Description
Dividing Lines Photography Project:
Dividing Lines, is a photographic essay responding to the event of Brexit and its effect on Ireland. Centred around the county of Donegal in the far north of the country and using the landscape as a metaphor, the project is her personal reaction to the situation and about the spirit of the place and its landscape. Most of all, it is about the artificiality of contrived divisions and borders. A book of the project was launched in January this year along with a pop-up exhibition featuring images from the book and a number of small handmade books elaborating on different aspects of the project.
Frankie McCallister, will be talking about the project itself and about her experience making the book, how that became a project in itself with a steep learning curve involved in self-publishing.
Photographer's Biography
Frankie McAllister is a Northern Irish photographer based in London. Her practice sits on the crossover of fine art and documentary photography or, more specifically, between representation and abstraction, blurring those lines to make us question what is real and what is imagined or remembered (or perhaps just 'felt;).
She has a particular interest in altered landscapes, the visible signs in human intervention and the effects of geo-politics on the landscape. She is also a founding member of FIKA Book and Zine. A new photographers' collective focusing on limited edition self-published books and zines.
