Event Details

Come and try linocut printing in the shadow of a Megalosaurus! The advent of printing was revolutionary for the distribution of scientific diagrams and drawings, including those of fossils. Against the backdrop of the Geological Society Library, this beginner level workshop will give you the opportunity to unleash your creativity and print your own fossil-inspired designs. Materials will be provided.

Disclaimer: not suitable for children due to the use of sharp tools.

Tickets cancelled within 72 hours of the event/no shows are regrettably non refundable.

Megalosaurus Month

During February 2024 we will be hosting an unusual visitor in the Upper Library at Burlington House.

2024 marks the 200th anniversary of the first scientific description of a non-avian dinosaur by William Buckland (1784-1856), Professor of Geology at Oxford University. His paper “Notice on the Megalosaurus or great Fossil Lizard of Stonesfield" was presented at a meeting of the Geological Society on 20 February 1824.

Throughout February, the Society will be celebrating this important marker in the history of science with a number of events about or inspired by dinosaurs. The exciting programme will include drawing classes, lectures, family activities and school visits.

The focal point of the celebrations will be a life-sized replica of a skeleton of a Megalosaurus which will be installed in the Upper Library.

Location & Time

This event will take place in person at Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, W1J 0BG. Doors open at 18:00 (GMT). Event ends at 21:00 (GMT).
