Description

Deep Cabaret emerged fully-formed from the intertidal mudflats and cowbelly quicksands of Morecambe Bay creating an entrancement of riffs and drones…

Desert blues improv and noir-drenched drone songs; hurdies, bagpipes, throat singing, cello, bass clarinet and drums making sparkling jazz, rooted folk and torching vocals. Deep Cabaret create songs by taking fragments from leftfield pop, African, folk and jazz, channelled through a sextet of instruments rarely heard in jazz (hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, overtone vocals) and setting found texts from across science, literature, history and anything that has something interesting to say about being human. Journeying through riffs and drones, curious and stirring. The music is fulsome and romantic one moment, edgy and disturbing the next.

“As the sun set, Deep Cabaret shared a spellbinding mix of sounds, many inspired by the stories and landscapes of Morecambe Bay. It was a delight to hear such an intriguing mix of instruments and astonishing vocals” – Morecambe Bay Partnership

Northering deftly weave together drones, samples and finger-style guitar with close-knit vocal interplay, creating a newly imagined song-based collaboration. Playing with contrast and context, tenderness and darkness, Northering delves deep into sensitive, restrained arrangements which reflect the honesty of human experience.

“A mesmerising marriage of words, harmony and sonic adventure, Maius Mollis and Anna Hughes’ burgeoning partnership is generating some of the region’s outstanding emerging sounds” - Narc Magazine
