DEATHSCAPES: Mexican Day of the Dead inspired-FREE Family Event
On November 9th, the Institute of Education (London Road campus) is opening its doors to the public for a celebration of life and remembrance! This is the third year we are running this family event. We look forward to seeing you join in the celebrations!
Come trick or treating with your family, wear your scariest, shiniest costume, visit different parts of the campus and join our fun workshops: pottery, screen printing, face painting, board games, 3D hangman and more! There are workshops & talks for adults too!
This year we welcome again the well-known ethical taxidermist Jazmine Miles-Long. Her sold out workshops with young people and adults in 2017 were one of the highlights of our event!
At 3.30pm join our debate on whether and how the topic of death can be integrated in the school curriculum: teachers', parents' and young people's perspectives are welcome!
ALL WORKSHOPS ARE FREE-LIMITED SPACES FOR SOME OF THE WORKSHOPS (see below).
ALL WORKSHOPS ARE BASED IN BUILDING L04 (Art Studio-London Road campus).

Interactive taxidermy workshop: Jazmine Miles-Long has been working as a Taxidermist and Artist since 2007 Jazmine creates taxidermy for both the gallery and museum context, and so her work sits between the realms of art and education. Jazmine’s love of natural history has led her to make work that respects the animal and focuses on the beauty of living things, giving the viewer the chance to explore nature up close. Offering an understanding of the animal and the taxidermy process itself promoting the scientific and cultural benefits of this intricate and evolving craft. Jazmine Calls herself an ‘ethical’ taxidermist to describe the way she produces work only using animals that have died from natural causes.

FAQs
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
This is a family event and you are all welcome! We do suggest though that most of the workshops are more suitable for children ages 5 years and up. Children younger than 5 years are welcome to join their siblings but need to be supervised by their parents. The billetto tickets will indicate the age-appropriateness of each workshop.
There will be notes on the door of each workshop to indicate age appropriateness and content.
Only two of the activities will be aimed towards adults mainly and again there will be indication on the site and at the door of the workshop. Laura Prime's talk is mainly aimed at ppl age 15+.
We expect that parents will stay with their children during the workshops.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event? There is some but limited parking on site. The venue is not far from the Reading train station and public transport takes you near the Institute of Education.
