Description
Are you interested in learning more about dancers, their training and common dance injuries - and supporting a good cause?
Join us on Monday 23rd February for a fascinating evening of CPD - and help young people with minimal literacy achieve a slice of dignity!
We are delighted to announce that Toby Smith has agreed to share his extensive knowledge on dancers and their injuries. The talk will begin with an overview of different styles of dance, with insight into ballet training and specific technique. The second hour will cover common injuries in dancers, including some of the technical faults that may predispose to injury.
Any profits from the evening will be donated to My Jamii Cafe, who will also be providing their excellent coffee as part of the ticket price.
Toby left home at 16 to go to professional ballet school. At 19 he joined the Israel Ballet in Tel Aviv, spending three seasons touring Israel and abroad. He returned to the UK in 2003 and, after working freelance, spent two years touring with Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake. Whilst taking a break from dancing he went to an open day at the British School of Osteopathy, and the next thing he knew he had graduated with distinction. Toby's dance experience fed into a dissertation researching ballet dancers and their injuries, and he now enjoys applying this experience treating patients from all walks of life.
My Jamii Cafe is a new not for profit enterprise scheme which helps young people with low educational attainment, minimal literacy, and little access to work experience, to improve their circumstances and reach their potential. The project provides training and work placements in a cafe that serves amazing coffee, and is a hub of the community, helping trainees gain access to wider opportunities once they have completed their placements.
