    Description

    ‘Community by Design’ will run an exciting workshop comparing aerobic (conventional) and anaerobic composing at Camley Street Natural Park. The park is home to a unique urban biodigester, where food waste is turned (anaerobically) into biogas and liquid fertiliser, while compost heaps on-site are used to aerobically produce dry compost. During the workshop you will:

  • Learn the basics of good aerobic composting;
  • Learn how to sift compost;
  • Understand how anaerobic digestion (AD) generates renewable gas and fertiliser;
  • Have a tour of the AD system;
  • Tour the food growing site where Community by Design utilise compost and digestate from the AD system;
  • Discuss sustainable food production in the city over an optional lunch (delicious vegetarian food - cost not included) at the closed loop cafe where biogas from the digester is used for cooking, food produced on site is used in the menu, and cafe prep waste goes to the digester.
  • Everyone welcome to enjoy an inspiring afternoon in one of Central London’s best kept secrets, a beautiful wildlife haven by the canal - only 7 minutes walk from Kings Cross.

    New Leaf cooking classes are funded byWise up to Waste and brought to you by Hubbub.
