Following the global #MeToo campaign and the local #IBelieveHer campaigns, it was highlighted by many that people would like to see the Rape Crisis Centre return to Northern Ireland / Belfast.
The women of the RCC worked tirelessly for several years until the Department of Health pushed them to the limit and forced closure (this was after they worked tirelessly as volunteers at their own expense for a number of years).
Eileen Calder and some of the women previously involved at the end are willing to train new counsellors and they are willing to advise and support a new centre.
A new Action Group has been set up to help facilitate the training of new counsellors and ultimately the opening of a new Rape Crisis Centre in Belfast.
The Action Group now allows for real discussions about what we can practically do in order to see the resurrection of this important and much-needed service in Belfast (and beyond).
