Description
Comedy at West House is back above Daisy's in the Park!
An evening of top notch comedy in aid of Heath Robinson Museum!
MC: Jeff Stevenson
Pinner boy Jeff is a vastly experienced comedian who has been in show business since the age of 14. Starting out as a child actor (yes, that is him in the famous Alan Parker film 'Bugsy Malone'!) Jeff was booked for his first paid gig at the tender age of 15. Jeff has been a top-rated comedian for over three decades and hugely enjoys performing stand-up comedy to audiences around the world. Jeff fully embraces the exciting challenge of moving with the times and keeping his act up to date. To achieve this level of freshness, Jeff writes new material daily.
Matt Welcome
Charismatic Welcome shows the confidence and ability of his experience every moment he's on stage. "
His sublime material is impressively taut, with not a word or even a pause out of place in the torrent of comedy. Superficially, his is a conversational style, yet you're never more than 20 seconds from the next gag as finely-tuned lines stack up with ruthless efficiency.
So crisp and pithy are the sarcastic observations, they almost seem like a collection of quotations from the world's great wits; making ideas seem so obvious that you'd wonder why you'd never considered them before.
Welcome breaks the ice with what looks like a card trick, but the only magic he does is with his material; using misdirection of the verbal kind to increase the impact of his already-strong punchlines.
Once he's established his comic credentials beyond any doubt, he relaxes into his set and eases off the throttle a bit.
Then the quickfire lines subside into chattier territory where he can explore new, offbeat, ideas, such as a five-minute exploration of fluid dynamics and aerodynamics launched from the deconstruction of a Bette Midler song which is a lot better than you'd have any right to expect.
Josh Howie
Fresh from writing and starring in his first sitcom for BBC Radio 4, Josh is about to embark on a UK tour, Josh Howie’s Messed Up. Already a much in-demand stand-up comic, performing regularly at all the major comedy clubs around the UK, over the previous few years Josh has also taken his distinctive brand of humor to India, Ireland, UAE, France, China, Thailand, Switzerland, Finland, Estonia and America. In 2012, he was invited to perform at the prestigious Just for Laugh’s comedy festival in Montreal, where he filmed the internationally distributed Just For Laugh’s All Access TV show.
In addition, he’s written and performed four solo shows for the Edinburgh Festival, before sell-out runs at the Soho Theatre. These include his hugely successful debut solo Fringe stand-up show, entitled Chosen, which played to sell out audiences and received rave reviews at the 2008 Edinburgh Festival, and his August 2010 show Gran Slam, based on his time living with his grandmother. In 2011, Josh returned with I am a Dick, self-explanatory, and in 2014 with AIDS: A Survivor’s Story, about going through puberty in the 90s. And AIDS.
Josh most recently appeared on Dave’s As Yet Untitled with Eddie Izzard, and has recorded for two series of the Comedy Central show Comedy Store, and featured on World Stands Up and Comedy Blue for the same channel. He spent four years as the writer/presenter of The Movie Geek on Sky Movies. Often praised for his writing talent, Josh has contributed features to The Guardian, The Times, and The Daily Mail.
Howie is brilliantly clever, honest, utterly engaging and absolutely fearless.
★★★★★ The Scotsman
A fabulous storyteller who can make you concentrate in silence then erupt into a fit of giggles. He’s slick, he’s quick and he’s incredibly playful with words.
★★★★★ Metro
Josh Howie walks the potentially trip-wired ground of race and religious identity with diamond-sharp wit and no small degree of daring. It’s fiercely intelligent, delivered with verve and you can expect to see a lot more of Howie in the future.
The Observer
Howie is a name to watch.
The Times
Great things are expected from the abrasive yet strangely lovable Josh Howie.
