Clementi Junior Piano Festival: Class 3 Competitive (Grades 5+)

From GBP 25.00

Mar 04 2018 12:30 - 13:15

Sunday 4 March 2018
Gary Branch

Join us at the historic home of composer Muzio Clementi in Kensington for the 3rd annual Clementi Junior Piano Competition. Now a family home, the venue allow us special permission to use the house for this event. Due to the small size of the living room, only 1 audience member can be admitted per participant.

Performers may choose any one piece by Clementi. Some ideas for repertoire can be downloaded for free on the link below but you may choose any piece by Clementi within the time limit of 5 minutes. Performers may play from this printed copy. This book contains very easy pieces through to harder level pieces.

Clementi House was the London home of Muzio Clementi (1752-1832), composer, pianist, and ‘Father of the Pianoforte’, in the words of the composer’s plaque in Westminster Abbey (where he is buried), during the second and third decades of the 19th century.

Through Clementi’s presence, the house became the musical ‘home’ in London of the young Felix Mendelssohn (1809-47), who visited the house daily during his prolonged London visits. Clementi House was visited by many other outstanding musicians of the period, including Chopin, Bellini, Joachim, and Ignaz Moscheles. Please note the piano is not a concert grand piano but more the type of grand piano found in a domestic setting.

Class 3 Information:
Please choose one piece by Clementi of up to 5 minutes. You must specify the name of the piece(s) at the time of entry. Incomplete entries will not be processed.

All competitors receive a certificate of participation. Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. There is a trophy for 1st place. The trophy is yours to keep and a deposit is not required to take home the trophy.

Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. Please note only one audience member will be admitted per performer as the venue is very small and a family home that we have permission to use for this event. No Under 18s will be admitted as guests.
