Description

A theatrical treat ever since it opened in 1892, Brandon Thomas’s Charley’s Aunt is coming to OSO for one night only!

Join us on a trip to the hallowed halls of Oxford, to meet the hapless Fancourt Babberley and his two lovelorn friends. The pair have some lady friends coming for lunch – and an elderly aunt, for the sake of propriety.

But when the aunt fails to arrive, isn’t it lucky there’s a certain young man with a knack for acting going spare…?

After a London opening, a four-year run, and countless revivals, the play became a hearty influence on British theatre – not least The Importance of Being Earnest. Even today, Charley’s Aunt stands out as a masterpiece in comic construction and exploration of thwarted love.

This is the first stage incarnation for BBV, who previously had success making films with the likes of Jon Pertwee, Peter Davison and Tom Baker.
