Hand-picked is a monthly night of live music with roots/contemporary folk leanings, situated at the Effra Social, Brixton. It is hosted by Celesta who for each event invite a couple of guest acts to perform, as well as play a set of their own.

This time we welcome fellow South-Londoner Genevieve Dawson, a singer with an ethereal presence. Her songs seem to come directly from the source, with stirring lyrics that address their themes head-on, while still retaining a certain ambiguity. At the very centre is voice so uniquely her own, navigating her lilting melodies with understated power and elegance, that gives her music an effortless transcendence. Catch this intimate performer in a suitably intimate environment at this months Hand-Picked. 

Our other guest will be Steve Folk, who is not much about the nonsense and very much about the music. He has been travelling, touring, and slowly honing his craft over many years now. Steve has a razor sharp wit, and a keen eye for bullshit, as well as a pendant for a sweet tune about love, loss and everything in between. Steve spends his time touring Europe with his guitar and his paintings, and is a tricky customer to pin down, which makes us very lucky indeed to have him here in London all to ourselves. Come for some tunes, some tales and some truths - Steve has them by the bucket load.
