Description
Cat Bear Tree launch their new EP 'Settled In Our Hearts' with a line up of some of their favourite musicians at Powerlunches in Dalston.
'Settled In Our Hearts' will be released in all digital formats on Friday 23 October. Mixed by Howard Redekopp (The New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara) and produced by celebrated singer-songwriter Rhiannon Mair, the EP forms an exhilarating portrait of the band’s melodic dream-pop meets angular-indie oeuvre and they can't wait for people to connect with it.
The track 'Relationship' from the EP was recently selected and premiered as 'Track of the Day' by Q Magazine: http://www.qthemusic.com/11679/
LINE UP:
Cat Bear Tree
Enthused by the trail-blazing women forming brilliant bands such as The Donnas, L7 and Elastica, the three members of Cat Bear Tree spent their teenage years sneaking into London gigs and sourcing inspiration from the capital’s more independently inclined music scenes. It was this punk-rock spirit that first bonded Zoe Konez (guitar and vocals), Claudia Mansaray (bass and vocals) and Sarah Smith (drums and vocals), three fearless players who’d been cutting their teeth on the DIY circuit. Having joined forces it was clear that Cat Bear Tree were a forceful prospect, their infectious indie hooks and open-book lyrics soon earning plaudits on both the blogosphere and stage, where key shows included supports to Mike Skinner and The Tuts. Debut EP ‘Let’s Share Hearts’ was an early statement of intent, earning the group comparisons to the likes of Electrelane and Sleater-Kinney, but it is new release ‘Settled In Our Hearts’ that captures the true qualities of Cat Bear Tree and will stand as their launchpad to broad acclaim, for, as the band admit: “We’ve pushed ourselves further out. This EP sounds like us, now, and we can’t wait for people to connect with it.”
Colour Me Wednesday
Feminist DIY punk/indie pop band based in West London fronted by the Doveton sisters along with Carmela Pietrangelo. Their long-awaited debut album 'I thought it was morning' was released on Discount Horse records over summer 2013 and in summer 2014 they released a 10 song split record with Spoonboy (Washington, DC) on Lauren Records and toured the East Coast of America promoting the album. Including performances at New York's Popfest and Plan-it-x Fest.
The Hysterical Injury
Hysterical Injury are a noise pop bass drums duo from South Wales via the West Country UK. Formed in 2007 as a three piece, they are now brother and sister Annie and Tom Gardiner. They have played hundreds of shows and supported many great bands including Lightning Bolt, Marnie Stern, Men, She Keeps Bees, Mike Watt, Black Pus, The Primitives, Katie Stelmanis (Austra), Screaming Females and many more. They are one of a kind in that they intertwine unusual melodic lines, big bass riffs and beats mashed from every style. It makes them hard to pigeon hole but if you have to ask, BBC Radio DJ Steve Lamacq said, “They kick up a thrash pop racket” and Venus Zine in the US hailed them as “Our generation’s Sonic Youth.”
Rhiannon Mair
Rhiannon Mair knows her way around the music industry; she’s a talented singer/songwriter who can play her own back up drums and produce her own album. Rhiannon has released two Crowd Funded records, a hit single in Austria’s Top 10 Charts and toured up and down the UK and Germany. Along the way she’s appeared on BBC Radio 2 and received support from BBC Introducing Counties. Besides recording and producing in her own studio, Rhiannon recently performed with Antonio Lulic as a drummer for his recent UK tour and supported Kimberley Anne on her pop-up tour around the UK. Rhiannon has always been strongly influenced by the eclectic mix of rock and folk music she’s been hearing since she was just a lil’ thing in her momma’s womb. She grew up on a diet of Bonnie Raitt, Dave Le Roth and the Indigo Girls but it was KT Tunstall and Alanis Morrisette who caught her attention and influenced her unique style. Rhiannon’s songs tell a story of some point in her life and every track is dripping with meaning.
