During this meeting, we will be joined by Patience Udonsi, a Learning Disability nurse who will be doing a presentation on 'Understanding Learning Disability and caring for someone with a Learning Disability within a Care Home'.
Patience Udonsi is a Lecturer and Programme Leader for the BSc Integrated Learning Disability Nursing and Social Work degree at the University of Salford, Manchester. She is passionate about reducing health inequalities for individuals with learning disabilities and neurodivergence. Patience brings a wealth of professional experience, having worked as a Community Learning Disability Nurse and a Mental Health Social Worker.
Her research focuses on advancing equity for individuals with intellectual disabilities who are neurodivergent, along with a commitment to anti-racist practice within the Health and Social Care context. Patience is accredited as a Positive Behaviour Management National Trainer and previously served as a Behaviour Specialist Nurse, conducting specialised behaviour assessments and intervention programs for individuals exhibiting complex, distressed behaviours.
Beyond this, she has expertise in supporting individuals with learning disabilities and Dementia, delivering various Dementia Training Sessions in Greater Manchester. Notably, Patience established an End-of-Life Care pathway for individuals with learning disabilities across Greater Manchester, actively engaging in teaching and training on the palliative care support needs of this population.
