Cairo Liberation Front (CLF) are electro cha3bi pioneers, promoting the sonic Arabic revolution.

CLF promotes the sonic Arabic revolution. Electro cha3bi comes from the popular neighbourhoods of Cairo. Producers use cracked software; combine American hip-hop, eurohouse and Arabic rhythms. Like Omar Souleyman meeting Sean Paul and Aphex Twin at a wedding party. It has the live power of punk rock shows and early house parties.

Founding member Joost Heijthuijsen explains the radical roots of the CLF sound: "We grew up on rap, and just as Public Enemy main man Chuck D once said that hip-hop was the CNN of black America, we thought that chaabi must be the Al Jazeera of the Arab youth. It doesn't portray the political reality of Tahrir Square, simply the reality of everyday life in working class neighbourhoods, normally inaccessible for white middle class people like us. So we thought, via music we can maybe connect with their reality; to show that perhaps our Arab counterparts have more in common with us than we think. We also thought that we could promote this other Arab voice in the Western world.”

On stage Cairo Liberation Front performs with one DJ and one MC. Sometimes they are joined by belly dancers and other friends. The collective is known for their highly energetic live performances. In their first year they played more then 40 times in whole Europe, from underground clubs to big festivals.

Join the revolution and say Yalla!
