The aim of this session is to support practitioners in introducing phonics to young children in an informed and practical way through the use of the 'Letters and Sounds' materials; and within the context of the revised EYFS framework.
It provides an opportunity to engage in practical activities and reflect upon how they can use the Letters and Sounds materials to develop a language rich environment in which children's speaking and listening skills are fostered.
The course aims to develop a working knowledge of phase 1 of the six-phase teaching materials, including use of the terminology used in teaching phonics, explore opportunities for application of phase 1 within an enabling environment and encourage use of phonics 'games' at home
