Description
Our Guild’s Annual ‘Bridge in Wonderful Places’ takes us this year to The Chapter Hall of the Order of St John, St John’s Gate. The game will be followed by prizes, raffle and traditional afternoon tea. There is also an optional tour of the museum from 11am-12pm, after which you are welcome to enjoy lunch in one of the many eateries around Farringdon. Tickets can be purchased below or by contacting the London office.
TOUR
A complimentary optional tour of the Museum of the Order of St John at between 11.00am and 12.00pm. The Museum has been open to visitors for over a hundred years. The collection includes paintings such as The Cardsharps by Caravaggio, the Charter of the Order of St John granted by Queen Victoria in 1888, manuscripts, rare armour, a bronze canon given by Henry VIII, ancient coins, decorative furniture, ceramics, silverware and textiles.
BRIDGE
Embellished with the medieval and modern coats of arms of the Priors, the Chapter Hall of the Order of St John provides a distinguished setting for our Bridge in Wonderful Places. With furniture dating from the sixteenth century, imposing portraits of British monarchs and Order dignitaries and a superb chandelier from the Farnese Palace in Rome, the Chapter Hall combines beauty and splendour to exquisite effect.
Chapter Hall will open at 1.30pm. Please note we ask players to bring their own playing cards, scorers and pencils. However, if you should forget them, we will have some spares. At the end of the afternoon, ‘playing prizes’ will be presented for:
• Highest individual score after three rubbers
• The first grand slam bid and made
• The first little slam bid and made
