About BORN::FREE
BORN::FREE is London’s leading platform for African and Afro-diasporic poetry and new writing.
Since 2014, the literary arts organisation has been a home for experimental performance and innovative writing; inviting artists across disciplines to share stages to blend the sonic with the poetic. A focus on careful curation, craft, and critique, BORN::FREE’s work spans live and digital events, education programmes, broadcast radio and print.
This event is the first of three consecutive events marking BORN::FREE's 10th Birthday– celebrating a decade of platforming Black writing across London and beyond back where it all began: SE LDN. Make sure you check out a unique edition of Veranda at Peckham Levels on 11 October and the third edition of bass-heavy club night GET::FREE on 12 October at Peckham Audio.
BORN::FREE Writers' Collective
2023 saw BORN::FREE launch their inaugural Writers' Collective and returns this year with another eleven Afro-diasporic writers based in London and the South-East to the BF Family. After meeting for fortnightly facilitated sessions with BORN::FREE's Co-Directors, along with other autonomous link-ups with each other to connect and reflect on their writings, BORN::FREE is gassed to present work developed in this period for the first time. Along with a musical accompaniment, music and networking, join us this Black History Month as we celebrate a new generation of Black British writing.
The night will be hosted by BORN::FREE's co-directors (pictured above), Belinda Zhawi (AKA MA.MOYO) + malakaï sargeant (AKA anxious.selecta) – both of whom will be closing the night with a back-to-back DJ set. Tickets on sale from Friday 30 August.
