Margate Pride presents Blue Jean
Multi award winning feature film Blue Jean explores the double life of respected PE teacher Jean under the looming section 28 ruling of the Thatcher government. Set in Tyneside, 1988, in a climate of rampant homophobia, Jean is caught in a painful dilemma as she tries to protect both her career and her private life when the arrival of a new student threatens to expose her. Writer-Director Georgia Oakley’s vividly realised debut feature, set at a turning point in British history, is a delicate and gripping character study of a woman caught between living an authentic life and the oppressive power of politics. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s Intimacy Coordinator, Jenefer Odell.
