Blue in Green is a monthly event at the Gallery Cafe, where jazz musicians play and the audience make art simultaneously. This time we welcome Weasel Squeezer, the latest creation of trumpet and flugelhorn player Jack Banjo Courtney with which he brings together tenor saxophonists Jake Burgess, Matt Grenz and Alex Hitchcock, as well as bassist Matthew Read and drummer Arthur Newell. Jack describes the project as "a chordless ensemble of six dafties that draws inspiration from an eclectic selection such as Lester Bowie, Enrico Rava, Wayne Shorter and Julius Hemphill. Together, with an obsession for traditional world musics and glimpses of King Crimson and Captain Beefheart, the group creates an intriguing sonority combining three contrasting yet complimentary tenor saxophone players. This exploration into avant-garde geordie noise euro-jazz is all you’re ever going to need."
Support will be provided by Alex Chalstrey and friends. Advance tickets £5, on the door £8.
